Walk the Arts by Night

•May 6, 2009 • Leave a Comment

It seems kind of odd that a gallery would have an exhibition start on a Saturday night, but then Art+Design night is only 3 days away, so it makes perfect sense that 101/Exhibit’s latest show featuring the works of metalsmith Curtis Lafollette opens the very same day. It’s refreshing how these guys have set not only an art criteria of their own but a unique pace as well. Warm nights wandering throughout Miami’s Design District checking out the latest visual trends is a great way to start Saturday’s PM fun. Never mind the wine or the hors d’oeuvres… Sure, it seems pretty cool to admire art with a glass of wine in your hand, but then again it is just too easy to make the next sip turn into a complete mess (valuable goods involved).

i guess if someone was to paint such feelings as fear, ferocity and anguish, charles pfahl would be that guy. with his caravaggio-ish dimly lit scenes, unsettling fish heads and headless mannequins, pfahl puts his mastery to tell secretive stories all about symbols and hidden metaphors. disturbing at their very core, pfahl’s paintings hold a certain beauty to them that is difficult to put in words. audacios, feroucios and unsettling, the work of such a talented artist will not leave anyone indifferent. thumbs up for 101/exhibit (www.101exhibit.com) and their unforgettabler visual risk.
